What’s your Raashee Review / Comments

Didn’t give the punch that is expected from an Ashutosh Gowariker movie.

I think the biggest flaw was the expressing less, emotion less, enthusiasm less, effort less actor. It was a big drag to see him. I mean, come on, it’s just that much that you can copy from Hrithik, after that you need to bring in your own originality, if any. Any song, fast or slow, you can’t keep doing the popping and locking. Any dialog delivery you just can’t read the script, put some life into the character. There were so many moments and chances in the movie where the actor could have taken this film to another level, but affsosh, Ashutosh had signed Harman for the movie a year back.

I would just leave this thinking Ronnie and Ashutosh paid the guy poorly looking at his past performance and that’s how he delivered now too.

Other than that, there was a lot of effort put on the drawing board of this movie. All raashee’s played the precise role and depicted the perfect character of each star sign.

Stories built around each kanya, had something new to say and kept the interest going.

Ashutosh had this movie very close to his heart, he tried to keep this movie to his religion and showed a lot of guju presence. He had lots of high expectation from it, but I think we all know his over confidence is now even showing on award functions.

Priyanka Chopra is on a roll, man! If I am not mistaken her consecutive last four movies have been a hit. And she even got the best actress award for one of them.

Fantabulous act and delivery by the latest bollywood queen. She surly does give her 100% to each scene. I must say her first role as the Aries girl was mind blowing. The accent she displayed was hilarious.

Most of her acts being indigenous at the same time had echo of her personality. He facial makeup, finger nails, lip do, eyebrows (except at one place) was more or less the same.

Finally, I would say wait till it comes on dvd, because then you can keep forwarding the non-relevant 13 songs.

Kaminey Review / Comments

I would rate this movie - Sucks!

But you would like to carry Shahid’s handover ahead and interpret that with 'Main Fa ko Fa kehta hoo!'.

A very dark predictable movie bought at peanut price from the streets from Africa. That’s true, the story has been written by a roadside gangster of Nairobi.

Story of two brothers with obvious psyche, one bad, one good, one running after his dream to be a bookie and stuck in the gangers games, the other being the part of the play due overconfidence in the Home science course.

The question asked is do you want to take a fort cut or a fmall fort cut.

Normal story showing the short falls of short cuts taken in life leading you to a dark future. Sadly the ending here leaves the public with a note of aspiration for taking up crime. Charlie is shown taking the crime ahead and having a successful future. Guess the director saw Shahid as the Hero in both the roles he was playing and made a glory finish for him, not giving justice to the script.

The boldness comes in displaying Mumbai police in the drug racket. Spin-offs’ thereof had its twists and turns, but nothing that would keep your anxiety high.

The script showed potential for becoming a very powerful plot, the characters used are talented; but I guess that’s the best Bhardwaj can create from it.

I was very surprised by the star rating given by the media, I think that’s where the role of the title ‘Kaminey’ comes in – I am sure it was bought.

Kambakkht Ishq Review / Comments

Kambakkht Akshay Kumar is in Ishq with showing off his stunts. An entire movie made round Akshay Kumar trying to reinstate his talent to the audience, for which he actually started getting popular in the late 90’s. The only difference being this time it’s in Hollywood and the stunts are all those that you can see in the Universal Studio, LA. This being the first Indian movie to be shot there. In the package come some old forgotten Holly stars. Something you didn’t know is, they had signed Arnold too for an appearance too but he said he does not want to be in the same frame as Akahay and over shadow him!

AK has got guts. Moreover his styling and sense of dressing is mooed by Youngistan. And the same characteristics are found in the hot and sexy Bebo. She is playing the vamps role in the movie. She has no good things to say about life in general, boys in specific. So you will ask who is playing the heroine, no pls, it cant be Amrita, no big budget producer can think of doing that; she is there because of her off-the-set friendship with Bebo.

This is not the 80 movie with typical sugar and salt characters, this is contemporary movie with the hero as a sexist and a bitchy babe. Both of them so egoistic that they are ready to break off their best friends/siblings marriage to prove their point.

If you have some free time, go Njoy this one – typical battle of the sexes.

New York Review / Comments

New York a bold attempt by director Kabir Khan on the aftermath of 9/11 and on the repercussions in the times to come.

Based on part of the political canvas of 9/11, it speaks of prejudices after the great human tragedy. It is a definite and very relevant subject about post-9/11 discrimination that have increased after the attacks.

It is an extremely taut and highly emotive piece of political drama, topical, meaningful, and entertaining, all at the same time.

A city in America was named New York to symbolize a fresh origin, a new start. New York the movie has done just that. After the long break in the multiplexes a strapping movie like New York has brought in all the zest and built the anxiety for the forthcoming movies too.

I would conclude by saying it is an important film.

Movies are back....

There finally seems to be an agreement between the titans.
Hurray... Good days are back. We can now go back and relax on the big cumfy red recliners, with a popcorn in one hand and a mega pepsi in the other. Now thats life for most of us.

3hrs of sheer entertainment is going to be on a roll.

India is still a developing country…!!! A class analogy..

Really a class analogy..

An Old Story:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

Indian Version:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.

Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter .

Mayawati states this as `injustice' done on Minorities.

Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.

The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance).

Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Left parties call for 'Bengal Bandh' in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and Grasshoppers.

Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.

Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the ' Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act' [POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the winter.

Arjun Singh makes 'Special Reservation ' for Grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & in Government Services.

The Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes,it's home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it ' A Triumph of Justice'.

Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice '.

CPM calls it the ' Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden '

Koffi Annan invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.

Many years later....

The Ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi-billion dollar company in Silicon Valley,

100s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India,

.

......AND

As a result of loosing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the grasshoppers,

.

India is still a developing country…!!!

13 B Review / Comments

I saw 13 B, supposedly a horror!

A friend of mine who gets scared at the silent hiss of the wind, overcame her fear of the supernatural after seeing this movie.

It’s more of a suspense thriller; however the suspense is revealed by some harmless sprits living in the idiot box of the house.

Yes, that’s true. The storylines trying to say that “if souls can get into a human body, which is supposedly the most complex machine; why can’t they get into simpler machine like a TV or radio or phone, and use them to communicate with people”. Wired ah... An inspiration of a Hollywood movie ‘White noise’.

It’s not a big budget movie, 70% of it being shot in one house with around 10 soapy unattractive actors, and the remaining movie has been shot in vicinities of Mumbai and B’lore.

The script of the movie is not very strong, you will walk out with lots of unanswered questions:

· Why could the nail not be put on the wall, when the divine photos were already in the house

· How can a 3 decades old photo album be extracted from a newly constructed building’s play area

· When everything was true, why did the cop’s wife survive

· Why was the lift not working for Madhavan, when the gosht were supposedly in the TV

· Why was only Madhavan’s pic in the mobile corrupted

· Dr Shinde first appearance in the movie is as a psychiatrist, but operates on the mothers leg problem and wife’s miscarriage

However the good part of the movie is, it keeps people engaged with multiple action filled events, which not necessarily have head or tail.

Another plus is, its script writer Vikram Kumar has well managed to keep the suspense on till the end.

If you wish to watch this movie, I would recommend you waiting for its VCD to be out.

NJoy,

Happy viewing.
