3 Idiots Review / Comment’s

Aamir Khan to a surprise has worked in more than one movie having the same plot. It could be his attempt to reach excellence, or enforce the message down through the audience.

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak & Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin - both had the same story line of a lover boy trying hard to get his love.

Awwal Number & Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar & Lagaan - all in the zest & zeal to be the winner at the end of the game.

Baazi & Sarfarsoh - had the fight against crime yarn.

& now Taare Zameen Par & 3 Idiots - driving the point to let the child be born free and let his creativity and interest build into his career.

Aamir Khan who has always been linked as a perfectionist, today reviles the secret & mantra of being successfully… In a recent TV show when N Murty and R Tata were asked for the success mantra they said its Luck. Aamir Khan says work with passion towards your subject & strive for excellence, sala success to jhak mar ke tumhare peecche aaega.

Rajkumar Hirani has put across a brilliant plot covering diversified topics and bringing the best out of each of them by somehow linking all of it back together. The pregnancy, teaching methods, hope of life, respect for parents, heart consoling fact & many such topics put into one big bag and shaken for delight. You would also always know it’s a Hirani movie when his simplistic `humanism alone works' philosophy is showcased.

All in all a vital, inspiring and life-revising work of contemporary art. A must watch, way better than the book, which is a first. BTW, the 3rd idiot isn’t Aamir Khan it is Javed Jaffery. Njoy.

For those of you who are net savvy, 3 Idiots is the first Indian film to be legally released on You Tube. (When you can’t stop piracy, why waste time fighting against it.)

Jail Review / Comments

No doubt Madhur Bhandarkar did not advertise this movie well. He knew it was not his best attempt.

If you are going to watch this movie expecting it to be an entertainer along with the realism Madhur always manages to bring to the floor, you will be partially disappointed. Even though the concept of showing pragmatic imprisonment may sound serious and black, there were many moments in the movie which could have released the stress from the drag the movie was becoming and brought life to script. Many characters shown, but not utilized well.

Right after the film certificate, they saw 3 pages full of sponsors, including some top five stars hotels, shopping malls etc, but it turned out depressing to see the entire 2 and half hrs in the jail and court area.

In a way I personally respect Madhur, as in all his scripts he has managed to bring out the real truth of the society right on your face, unlike many others who hype it and get caught at the censor board (in this case except the nudity scene).

However, for this particular movie I would say it’s ok if you miss this drag, unless you want to know the actual reality around the procedures and processes of entering, escaping and living in the Indian jurisdiction.

All The Best Review / Comments

At the start of the movie all the actors sing the title song, at that point in time it look likes they are telling all the best to us as we will need that to sit thru the movie.

But Rohit Sheety has managed to keep the good work up, third time in a row.

He obviously starts with a stunningly creative stunt and a gala parade, which I believe would have taken most of the funds, as rest of the movie has been shot in a house and outdoor scenes are local Goa whereabouts.

The plot has couple of events which the two young couples get caught into for their need of money, and the fun begins when they try to hide it and the pieces unfolds in front of their macho big brother.

Good work has been extracted from most of the characters. All of them put together and some events has given decent results:

Marie Maid (not my maid, her name is Marie) with the typical Goan accents;

Car garage & Music band – utilized for one event each in the movie;

Ever green comedian Johnny bhai as Tobu bolta hai;

Sanjay Mishra as the tensed homeless tenant who keeps singing Just Chill;

Sanjay and Fardeen as Dharam Vir respectively, Sanjay strong and powerful and Fardeen still learning his acting skills;

Mugdha as Vidya, in vastu science;

Asrani as her father who gets beaten up for nothing and uses old hindi proverbs;

Bipasha plays a double role to prove her duskiness further, as Jhanvi and Princess Of Lesotho;

last but not the least Ajay as Prem Chopra taking away all the credit at the end by being the ideation king and prankster that he is in real life.

I must say the dialogues are outstanding. Some of them really well though of…

Cricket tournament called – GPL…

Baharo phool barsaoo mera mehboob aiya hai

PhD – Phata hua Dhol

MBA – Maha Bekar Adami

& some nice use of Swahili – Muzuri Sana. Baraka Baraka.

All in all an enjoyable family entertainer, you can go for over the weekend and de-stress.

Main Aurr Mrs Khanna Review / Comments

You know sometimes something does not go well and you immediately start thinking what did I do to deserve this.

That was exactly my thought 30mins into this movie.

A very depressing, unrealistic, out of place, a bit unethical and a badly edited movie.

When the world has started showing upward trends, who would want to see a movie of recession times.

Also what can one expect from a movie which was suppose to go on the floor in mid 2007 and has been rejected by Priyanka Chopra, Ayesha Takia, Preity Zinta, Lara Dutta and Deepika Padukone for the main lead. And I have heard Kareena did this movie just because Salman requested her personally.

And can u imagine Bappi Lahiri in a movie. Mere ghan ye nahi sun sakte!

Trust me, if you haven’t see this, you are blessed.

Don’t pre judge me, I have to write reviews.

Dil Bole Hadippa Review / Comments

Oye bhool fikraa, hai jigraa !!! Toh sang mere bol HADIPPA !!!

A very dynamic movie.

India Pakistan issue, Husband wife distance, Father Son relationship, Indian Western culture, Male Female differentiations, Woman empowerment, all these touchy social concerns nicely blend into one.

A movie reinstating that dreams are the biggest drivers, and if you believe in them you can achieve it.

Rani Mukherjee after the long hiatus, just brilliant. It felt like she was polishing her skills while she was trapped in her new house. Dialog deliver/Punjabi accent excellent, Cricket poses perfect, Looks beautiful, Style flawless, Presence fascinating.

“Veer Prathab Shing, Right de Left hand batsman”.

Rani started her career with Mendhi, fighting for women rights. Here she starts the second phase of her career showcasing girl power. A remake of “She’s the Man”, but not the typical copy, good justice and imagination put in the script.

Nice job done! I think staying with big brands, pay back - Yash Raj Productions.

Not to forget our upcoming chocolate hero, who ends up getting paired with every single girl he acts with (by single I mean both, each and spinster). He always wanted to be like Shah Rukh Khan, here he not only plays the role of the coach but also dresses, and in one act plays DDLJ character of Raj.

Screen presence of Shahid has been always charismatic, just like his dad.

All in all, a movie worth the watch.

What’s your Raashee Review / Comments

Didn’t give the punch that is expected from an Ashutosh Gowariker movie.

I think the biggest flaw was the expressing less, emotion less, enthusiasm less, effort less actor. It was a big drag to see him. I mean, come on, it’s just that much that you can copy from Hrithik, after that you need to bring in your own originality, if any. Any song, fast or slow, you can’t keep doing the popping and locking. Any dialog delivery you just can’t read the script, put some life into the character. There were so many moments and chances in the movie where the actor could have taken this film to another level, but affsosh, Ashutosh had signed Harman for the movie a year back.

I would just leave this thinking Ronnie and Ashutosh paid the guy poorly looking at his past performance and that’s how he delivered now too.

Other than that, there was a lot of effort put on the drawing board of this movie. All raashee’s played the precise role and depicted the perfect character of each star sign.

Stories built around each kanya, had something new to say and kept the interest going.

Ashutosh had this movie very close to his heart, he tried to keep this movie to his religion and showed a lot of guju presence. He had lots of high expectation from it, but I think we all know his over confidence is now even showing on award functions.

Priyanka Chopra is on a roll, man! If I am not mistaken her consecutive last four movies have been a hit. And she even got the best actress award for one of them.

Fantabulous act and delivery by the latest bollywood queen. She surly does give her 100% to each scene. I must say her first role as the Aries girl was mind blowing. The accent she displayed was hilarious.

Most of her acts being indigenous at the same time had echo of her personality. He facial makeup, finger nails, lip do, eyebrows (except at one place) was more or less the same.

Finally, I would say wait till it comes on dvd, because then you can keep forwarding the non-relevant 13 songs.

Kaminey Review / Comments

I would rate this movie - Sucks!

But you would like to carry Shahid’s handover ahead and interpret that with 'Main Fa ko Fa kehta hoo!'.

A very dark predictable movie bought at peanut price from the streets from Africa. That’s true, the story has been written by a roadside gangster of Nairobi.

Story of two brothers with obvious psyche, one bad, one good, one running after his dream to be a bookie and stuck in the gangers games, the other being the part of the play due overconfidence in the Home science course.

The question asked is do you want to take a fort cut or a fmall fort cut.

Normal story showing the short falls of short cuts taken in life leading you to a dark future. Sadly the ending here leaves the public with a note of aspiration for taking up crime. Charlie is shown taking the crime ahead and having a successful future. Guess the director saw Shahid as the Hero in both the roles he was playing and made a glory finish for him, not giving justice to the script.

The boldness comes in displaying Mumbai police in the drug racket. Spin-offs’ thereof had its twists and turns, but nothing that would keep your anxiety high.

The script showed potential for becoming a very powerful plot, the characters used are talented; but I guess that’s the best Bhardwaj can create from it.

I was very surprised by the star rating given by the media, I think that’s where the role of the title ‘Kaminey’ comes in – I am sure it was bought.

Kambakkht Ishq Review / Comments

Kambakkht Akshay Kumar is in Ishq with showing off his stunts. An entire movie made round Akshay Kumar trying to reinstate his talent to the audience, for which he actually started getting popular in the late 90’s. The only difference being this time it’s in Hollywood and the stunts are all those that you can see in the Universal Studio, LA. This being the first Indian movie to be shot there. In the package come some old forgotten Holly stars. Something you didn’t know is, they had signed Arnold too for an appearance too but he said he does not want to be in the same frame as Akahay and over shadow him!

AK has got guts. Moreover his styling and sense of dressing is mooed by Youngistan. And the same characteristics are found in the hot and sexy Bebo. She is playing the vamps role in the movie. She has no good things to say about life in general, boys in specific. So you will ask who is playing the heroine, no pls, it cant be Amrita, no big budget producer can think of doing that; she is there because of her off-the-set friendship with Bebo.

This is not the 80 movie with typical sugar and salt characters, this is contemporary movie with the hero as a sexist and a bitchy babe. Both of them so egoistic that they are ready to break off their best friends/siblings marriage to prove their point.

If you have some free time, go Njoy this one – typical battle of the sexes.

New York Review / Comments

New York a bold attempt by director Kabir Khan on the aftermath of 9/11 and on the repercussions in the times to come.

Based on part of the political canvas of 9/11, it speaks of prejudices after the great human tragedy. It is a definite and very relevant subject about post-9/11 discrimination that have increased after the attacks.

It is an extremely taut and highly emotive piece of political drama, topical, meaningful, and entertaining, all at the same time.

A city in America was named New York to symbolize a fresh origin, a new start. New York the movie has done just that. After the long break in the multiplexes a strapping movie like New York has brought in all the zest and built the anxiety for the forthcoming movies too.

I would conclude by saying it is an important film.

Movies are back....

There finally seems to be an agreement between the titans.
Hurray... Good days are back. We can now go back and relax on the big cumfy red recliners, with a popcorn in one hand and a mega pepsi in the other. Now thats life for most of us.

3hrs of sheer entertainment is going to be on a roll.

India is still a developing country…!!! A class analogy..

Really a class analogy..

An Old Story:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

Indian Version:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.

Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter .

Mayawati states this as `injustice' done on Minorities.

Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.

The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance).

Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Left parties call for 'Bengal Bandh' in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and Grasshoppers.

Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.

Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the ' Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act' [POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the winter.

Arjun Singh makes 'Special Reservation ' for Grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & in Government Services.

The Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes,it's home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it ' A Triumph of Justice'.

Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice '.

CPM calls it the ' Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden '

Koffi Annan invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.

Many years later....

The Ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi-billion dollar company in Silicon Valley,

100s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India,

.

......AND

As a result of loosing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the grasshoppers,

.

India is still a developing country…!!!

13 B Review / Comments

I saw 13 B, supposedly a horror!

A friend of mine who gets scared at the silent hiss of the wind, overcame her fear of the supernatural after seeing this movie.

It’s more of a suspense thriller; however the suspense is revealed by some harmless sprits living in the idiot box of the house.

Yes, that’s true. The storylines trying to say that “if souls can get into a human body, which is supposedly the most complex machine; why can’t they get into simpler machine like a TV or radio or phone, and use them to communicate with people”. Wired ah... An inspiration of a Hollywood movie ‘White noise’.

It’s not a big budget movie, 70% of it being shot in one house with around 10 soapy unattractive actors, and the remaining movie has been shot in vicinities of Mumbai and B’lore.

The script of the movie is not very strong, you will walk out with lots of unanswered questions:

· Why could the nail not be put on the wall, when the divine photos were already in the house

· How can a 3 decades old photo album be extracted from a newly constructed building’s play area

· When everything was true, why did the cop’s wife survive

· Why was the lift not working for Madhavan, when the gosht were supposedly in the TV

· Why was only Madhavan’s pic in the mobile corrupted

· Dr Shinde first appearance in the movie is as a psychiatrist, but operates on the mothers leg problem and wife’s miscarriage

However the good part of the movie is, it keeps people engaged with multiple action filled events, which not necessarily have head or tail.

Another plus is, its script writer Vikram Kumar has well managed to keep the suspense on till the end.

If you wish to watch this movie, I would recommend you waiting for its VCD to be out.

NJoy,

Happy viewing.

Delhi 6 Review / Comments

I saw Delhi 6 first day first show, but I was not the first one to see it, I am not talking about movie piracy, all I am saying is I entered the cinema hall 15 - 20 mins late.

It took me 1Hr and 5 mins to travel 11Kms, and that’s a shame.

And that’s what the movie is all about.

The first scene I see is, our Macho hero is dancing on the terrace with his family and all of a sudden his grandma, whom he has come to drop off from US, faints and falls on the floor. They need to rush her to the hospital and our hero is surprisingly shocked by seeing himself have to take her in a hatched-back cycle in the middle of the market where there were more number of animals and people on the road than the road itself.

He shouts and rushes his way out of market to get to the main road, to find a traffic jam. Being the angry young man's son that he is, he jumps off the auto and walks to the middle of the jam to learn that there is a cow who is going to give birth in the middle of the road, right here right now! And to add to the shock, there are thousands of people gushing round the cow to see the action. There even is a shadhu making money out of this as if it’s his business to breed cows.

Our hero gets furious and yells on all to get out of the road, but all in vein. He then rushed back towards his grandma, only to find her missing, she had stepped down from the auto in her given situation and gone walking to take blessings from the cow.

Well I was stuck in the jam too, but it wasn''t so bad.

Not taking away the cake here, this is a fact and the reality on the floor.

Some section in Indian are superstitious and have blind faith in number of aspects which just leads them to their downfall. Their basic training is flawed. The clear concept and factual understanding is missing. They lack a clear subconscious. They make India a hypocrite nation wanting to blame others for their own failures and mistakes. They are unaware of their strengths and weaknesses. Their laziness over their brain disables them to explore the underlying truth. This is a reality to many.

Delhi 6 shows exactly this. The monkey with a motherboard on this chest, people pointing fingers on the monkey for their mistake and the world believing it. The untouchable tribes, the achuts. The suppressed daughters. Believing one sadhus statement he used to cover one of his lie, causing communal riots.

I mean, in what state of mind do people live.

Would highly appreciate Rakeysh Mehra's focus here and hats off to AB’s Baby for taking this concept/movie and doing a wonderful job with the American accent.

Aamir khan has started with the ad's to awaken India. ''Delhi 6'' is Abhishek Bhachan's 2hrs 50mins attempt to tell India 'Jaago'.

Dev D Review / Comments

I saw 'Dev D' today.

I now understand the meaning of the poster, Abhay Deol with big red lips....

Its a brilliant script and well directed movie. The script is so strong that it has not left any loop holes for you to question or think on any missing facts. I think that is the usp of the movie. The script keeps you engaged at all times.

Infact Devdas as a concept has always interested the crowd and always been a bold concept to showcase. However this movie has been over the edge at times for those watching it with family.

With the western approach that Kashyap has brought into the Devdas story, the uncivilized, crude, and foul language is the cheery on the cake. Well not a very nice thing to be proud of, but this is what comes in the Devdas packing.

Devdas story originally is the psychological story of an unbehaved kid who is taken away from his mother's love as a punishment. This led’s him to lose respect for all around. The replication of this is shown on his remaining life as a person who always falls flat while trying to achieving anything he loves.

This is shown beautifully in the movie 'Dev D'. Him being cheated psychological when ever he tries to get close to any girl. Though the girls love him and he loves them in return, but they never able to have a good healthy time together.

Deol has done a fascinating job in the movie. He acting demonstrates the soul of the character. I have seen his other movies and him toning his body down for this movie just shows the professionalism. I think Bollywood has got another dedicated method actor.

Cheers.

Billu Barbar Review / Comments

I saw the new movie so called 'Billu' today.

Well the movie had a concept and story line, but it was not enough to keep the Indian audience occupied.

I will not blame the story writer here, but would like to blame the producer.

We need to change the concept of having a 3hrs long movie for it to be sold.

Our producers want to promote/achieve a lot more from a movie then just passing its message successfully.

Passing a simple story down, if done with a forceful 3hrs, would comply his to put in unnecessary song and scenes which will just make the movie a drag.

Today we (Bollywood) have matured enough to create and showcase good concepts, but unlike Hollywood which remains to the topic and closes the show to the point within 2hrs.

Keeping our movies to a short length with make our movies substantial and power packed to the effect of it to stay in peoples mind.

Today many still see movies just for the glam and not carrying out any message from it, whereas the same is not true for many others.
