New York Review / Comments

New York a bold attempt by director Kabir Khan on the aftermath of 9/11 and on the repercussions in the times to come.

Based on part of the political canvas of 9/11, it speaks of prejudices after the great human tragedy. It is a definite and very relevant subject about post-9/11 discrimination that have increased after the attacks.

It is an extremely taut and highly emotive piece of political drama, topical, meaningful, and entertaining, all at the same time.

A city in America was named New York to symbolize a fresh origin, a new start. New York the movie has done just that. After the long break in the multiplexes a strapping movie like New York has brought in all the zest and built the anxiety for the forthcoming movies too.

I would conclude by saying it is an important film.

Movies are back....

There finally seems to be an agreement between the titans.
Hurray... Good days are back. We can now go back and relax on the big cumfy red recliners, with a popcorn in one hand and a mega pepsi in the other. Now thats life for most of us.

3hrs of sheer entertainment is going to be on a roll.

India is still a developing country…!!! A class analogy..

Really a class analogy..

An Old Story:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

Indian Version:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.

Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter .

Mayawati states this as `injustice' done on Minorities.

Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.

The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance).

Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Left parties call for 'Bengal Bandh' in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and Grasshoppers.

Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.

Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the ' Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act' [POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the winter.

Arjun Singh makes 'Special Reservation ' for Grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & in Government Services.

The Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes,it's home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it ' A Triumph of Justice'.

Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice '.

CPM calls it the ' Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden '

Koffi Annan invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.

Many years later....

The Ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi-billion dollar company in Silicon Valley,

100s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India,

.

......AND

As a result of loosing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the grasshoppers,

.

India is still a developing country…!!!

13 B Review / Comments

I saw 13 B, supposedly a horror!

A friend of mine who gets scared at the silent hiss of the wind, overcame her fear of the supernatural after seeing this movie.

It’s more of a suspense thriller; however the suspense is revealed by some harmless sprits living in the idiot box of the house.

Yes, that’s true. The storylines trying to say that “if souls can get into a human body, which is supposedly the most complex machine; why can’t they get into simpler machine like a TV or radio or phone, and use them to communicate with people”. Wired ah... An inspiration of a Hollywood movie ‘White noise’.

It’s not a big budget movie, 70% of it being shot in one house with around 10 soapy unattractive actors, and the remaining movie has been shot in vicinities of Mumbai and B’lore.

The script of the movie is not very strong, you will walk out with lots of unanswered questions:

· Why could the nail not be put on the wall, when the divine photos were already in the house

· How can a 3 decades old photo album be extracted from a newly constructed building’s play area

· When everything was true, why did the cop’s wife survive

· Why was the lift not working for Madhavan, when the gosht were supposedly in the TV

· Why was only Madhavan’s pic in the mobile corrupted

· Dr Shinde first appearance in the movie is as a psychiatrist, but operates on the mothers leg problem and wife’s miscarriage

However the good part of the movie is, it keeps people engaged with multiple action filled events, which not necessarily have head or tail.

Another plus is, its script writer Vikram Kumar has well managed to keep the suspense on till the end.

If you wish to watch this movie, I would recommend you waiting for its VCD to be out.

NJoy,

Happy viewing.

Delhi 6 Review / Comments

I saw Delhi 6 first day first show, but I was not the first one to see it, I am not talking about movie piracy, all I am saying is I entered the cinema hall 15 - 20 mins late.

It took me 1Hr and 5 mins to travel 11Kms, and that’s a shame.

And that’s what the movie is all about.

The first scene I see is, our Macho hero is dancing on the terrace with his family and all of a sudden his grandma, whom he has come to drop off from US, faints and falls on the floor. They need to rush her to the hospital and our hero is surprisingly shocked by seeing himself have to take her in a hatched-back cycle in the middle of the market where there were more number of animals and people on the road than the road itself.

He shouts and rushes his way out of market to get to the main road, to find a traffic jam. Being the angry young man's son that he is, he jumps off the auto and walks to the middle of the jam to learn that there is a cow who is going to give birth in the middle of the road, right here right now! And to add to the shock, there are thousands of people gushing round the cow to see the action. There even is a shadhu making money out of this as if it’s his business to breed cows.

Our hero gets furious and yells on all to get out of the road, but all in vein. He then rushed back towards his grandma, only to find her missing, she had stepped down from the auto in her given situation and gone walking to take blessings from the cow.

Well I was stuck in the jam too, but it wasn''t so bad.

Not taking away the cake here, this is a fact and the reality on the floor.

Some section in Indian are superstitious and have blind faith in number of aspects which just leads them to their downfall. Their basic training is flawed. The clear concept and factual understanding is missing. They lack a clear subconscious. They make India a hypocrite nation wanting to blame others for their own failures and mistakes. They are unaware of their strengths and weaknesses. Their laziness over their brain disables them to explore the underlying truth. This is a reality to many.

Delhi 6 shows exactly this. The monkey with a motherboard on this chest, people pointing fingers on the monkey for their mistake and the world believing it. The untouchable tribes, the achuts. The suppressed daughters. Believing one sadhus statement he used to cover one of his lie, causing communal riots.

I mean, in what state of mind do people live.

Would highly appreciate Rakeysh Mehra's focus here and hats off to AB’s Baby for taking this concept/movie and doing a wonderful job with the American accent.

Aamir khan has started with the ad's to awaken India. ''Delhi 6'' is Abhishek Bhachan's 2hrs 50mins attempt to tell India 'Jaago'.

Dev D Review / Comments

I saw 'Dev D' today.

I now understand the meaning of the poster, Abhay Deol with big red lips....

Its a brilliant script and well directed movie. The script is so strong that it has not left any loop holes for you to question or think on any missing facts. I think that is the usp of the movie. The script keeps you engaged at all times.

Infact Devdas as a concept has always interested the crowd and always been a bold concept to showcase. However this movie has been over the edge at times for those watching it with family.

With the western approach that Kashyap has brought into the Devdas story, the uncivilized, crude, and foul language is the cheery on the cake. Well not a very nice thing to be proud of, but this is what comes in the Devdas packing.

Devdas story originally is the psychological story of an unbehaved kid who is taken away from his mother's love as a punishment. This led’s him to lose respect for all around. The replication of this is shown on his remaining life as a person who always falls flat while trying to achieving anything he loves.

This is shown beautifully in the movie 'Dev D'. Him being cheated psychological when ever he tries to get close to any girl. Though the girls love him and he loves them in return, but they never able to have a good healthy time together.

Deol has done a fascinating job in the movie. He acting demonstrates the soul of the character. I have seen his other movies and him toning his body down for this movie just shows the professionalism. I think Bollywood has got another dedicated method actor.

Cheers.

Billu Barbar Review / Comments

I saw the new movie so called 'Billu' today.

Well the movie had a concept and story line, but it was not enough to keep the Indian audience occupied.

I will not blame the story writer here, but would like to blame the producer.

We need to change the concept of having a 3hrs long movie for it to be sold.

Our producers want to promote/achieve a lot more from a movie then just passing its message successfully.

Passing a simple story down, if done with a forceful 3hrs, would comply his to put in unnecessary song and scenes which will just make the movie a drag.

Today we (Bollywood) have matured enough to create and showcase good concepts, but unlike Hollywood which remains to the topic and closes the show to the point within 2hrs.

Keeping our movies to a short length with make our movies substantial and power packed to the effect of it to stay in peoples mind.

Today many still see movies just for the glam and not carrying out any message from it, whereas the same is not true for many others.
